The shortcut virus hides the infected files and creates shortcuts for each files. This virus is very disturbing. It travels through USB Pendrives. You can get rid of them very easily. To remove the virus you need to:

1. Start CMD (Command Prompt) from Start Menu - All Programs - Accessories - CMD.

2. Type attrib-h-r-s / s / df: \ *. * where:

  • The f: with d is the infected drive.
  • -h unhides all files of the drive.
  • -r frees the files from Read Only attribute.
  • -s makes the files as non system file.
  • *.* means files with any name or extension.
3. Press Enter.

4. Open the drive.

5. Permanently Delete all the unnecessary Shortcut, Autorun.inf, Desktop.ini files.

6. Scan your Computer with a good antivirus.

If your motherboard circuits got burned then there is no way you can fix it. But if a virus deletes your BIOS then your motherboard will stop working. There will be no POST operation. You'll get no display on your monitor screen. Your Processor fan will rotate but your computer won't start. Even if you remove your RAM there will be no siren or beep. So you can assume that your PC's BIOS has probably been corrupted. You can fix this problem by:

1. Find a motherboard that uses the same version BIOS (Take help from the manufacturer's website).

2. Remove your hard disk drive because it may contain the virus that caused the problem. Then Insert a good HDD that has a previously installed Operating System, good Antivirus and same version BIOS installer in it (Download the BIOS installer from the manufacturer's website).

3. Take the BIOS chip out of the bad motherboard (Use a screw driver or chip puller to do this).

4. Now take the BIOS chip out of the working motherboard and insert it into the bad motherboard (Don't press it too hard or else it will go in all the way. Softly connect the chip's connectors with the socket).

5. Boot the motherboard with the temporary new chip.

6. Now remove the temporary chip from the running motherboard (Use a screw driver or chip puller to do this).

7. Insert the bad BIOS chip into the socket.

8. Run the BIOS installer setup and install/flash the BIOS.

9. Restart/Reboot the computer.

10. If your PC Reboots then your motherboard is fixed.

11. Don't forget to put the working BIOS chip back to its own motherboard.

Conclusion: This is not for amateurs. Any mistake can damage an active motherboard. If you are not sure how to do this then get an expert or buy a new MOBO.

Win32 Sality viruses affect your PC when you insert a USB memory drive that has a Win32.Sality virus in it or when you download some infected files from the internet. These viruses can cause the following problems:

  • Task Manager disabled – Your Task Manager will not work
  • Registry Editor (REGEDIT) stops working
  • Folder Options tools won't work – Folder Options inaccessible
  • Infected .EXE files – Some of the .EXE files will stop working and display error messages. Programs and applications will not work
  • PC slows down

How to Remove Win32 Sality Virus

  1. Download an antivirus or internet security software and install.
  2. Run a Full Scan.
  3. Don't run any programs or applications during the scan.
  4. Delete or heal the infected files from the scan result.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Done.
You can download Kaspersky or AVG both are good at removing Win32 Sality. I used both softwares. AVG has a feature that heals infected files where Kaspersky is much more strict and fast.

Sometimes you might have to reinstall Windows then install antivirus software to scan infected files on other drives. Win32 Sality kills EXE files. Don't give this virus time to infect more files.
